The Stilled Upper Zora River is an area you must explore in order to complete “Chaos at River Zora Village” in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

In this main quest step for Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, you must locate five of Tri’s friends to fix the rift and proceed. You’ll also get a chance to unlock a few water-based enemy echoes, one of which is an explosive addition to your arsenal.

Though you can collect the following of Tri’s five friends in any order and aren’t specifically numbered, we’ve ordered them in a sequence that minimizes any running back and forth. If you’re not sure which one are you missing, then check the screenshots for an at-a-glance view of the locations you’ve already visited.

From where you first enter the Stilled Zora River, go left.

Swim through the islands of suspended water, going north and then left, until you find the first of Tri’s friends at the end. This is a short, linear route, and you can only go back to the beginning from here.

From where you first enter the Stilled Zora River, go right, where the path will immediately split into two — north and south. Go north, where you’ll come to a floating tree, which is designed to take your back left and onto an upper level. Jump over to the tree then use an echo (we used a trampoline) to help you up.

Once you’ve climbed up, go north, swimming up and out of the water by holding the B button, to come across a suspended dradd, and one of Tri’s friends close by. This is a dead end, so return to the beginning.

Return to where you first entered the Stilled Zora River. Go right, where the path will immediately split into two - north and south. Head along the south route, which takes you along two fallen columns, and a wooden log bridge. Make sure you leap from one object to the next, as they don’t make a clean path as you walk, and you can easily fall.

Once at the log bridge, leap into the body of water suspended along the cliff, then press the B button to surface and arrive at the top to continue exploring.

Watch out for the projectile-spitting octorok on the right when you emerge. We used a Crow echo here, as that did the fighting for us while we concentrated on avoiding projectiles by swimming away.

Instead of continuing right on this level, there is another suspended body of water running down the cliff to the south. Descend here, and at the end of the fallen column, is the next of Tri’s friends.

From Friend #3, return to cliff top by swimming back up the body of water to where you encountered the octorok, and continue right until you reach a tree at the end of a path and a larger island just beyond it. Use an echo to scale the tree (we used a trampoline) then enter the doorway to reach a side-scrolling area.

In the side-scrolling area, climb down the ladder to enter a body of water. Get close to the bombfish to start a countdown, and swim away before it explodes. You can now learn the Bombfish Echo.

Use this newly acquired echo to get through the cracked blocks below by summoning next to the blocks and swimming away. The detonation will clear a path.

Next, swim left along the very bottom of the area to find another cracked block. Use a bombfish to clear this out of the way, and locate your next Tri friend.

From the bottom of this side-scrolling area, catch your breath from the stream of bubbles, and defeat the nearby swimming tangler (summoning a bombfish will do the trick) to get the Tangler Echo.

Swim left and through the maze-like path. Defeat the jellyfish-like enemy to get the Biri Echo (again, a bombfish will make short work on this), then swim up.

Emerge out of the water, and defeat the jumping crab-like enemy (feel free to switch to the Swordfighter form now) to get another Tri friend.

To leave this side-scrolling area quickly, climb up this ladder to the right, then use a bombfish to clear the block (if will just bob on the ground when placed on land) and climb back out of the starting ladder.

Once you have collected all five Tri friends, you will be teleported back to the start, signalling the end of the mini-dungeon. Tri will get a level boost, and you’ll receive two might crystals for your trouble.

You’ll then return to the Zora River, and will next tackle the Jabul Ruins.

Beyond that, our complete Echoes of Wisdom main story walkthrough, interactive map, and locations for heart pieces, fairy bottles, echoes, and side quests can point you in the right direction toward what to do next.
